Why
These notes are a collection of paintings that I especially like. I enjoy looking at them, and I hope you will too. Sometimes I just open this notebook to a painting I really like, and leave it up on the screen of my iPad as I work on other things.

As I write this, there is just one image in my "notebook." By the time you see these lines, I hope that there will be many more.
PS. We have to be respectful of image rights. I have taken most of these images from WikiPaintings. Take a look at this site — there is a lot there. Below is one of my favorites. For me, looking at works like this is a silent meditation. No need for more.
Impressionism
1. Claude Monet, Misty Morning on the Seine (1897)
Impressionism is only direct sensation. All great painters were less or more impressionists. It is mainly a question of instinct. — Claude Monet
I am trying to figure out how much I like this painting of Monet. I hadn’t seen it before today. It is certainly "impressionistic:-)"
Post-Impressonism
I always think of color when I think of Vincent Van Gogh with color. But he was also a master of drawing, as this chalk sketch shows. Just a small number of bold, almost vertical lines builds up a rhythmically compelling picture.

This chapter has work by paintings that are by artists completely new to me. I credit wikipaintings.org for the pleasure of discovering most of these. They have provided a great resource and a great tool to all those who love art. Bravo to them!
